Three weeks is when Vietnam stops behaving like three separate vacations glued together — if you resist the urge to move every morning and accept that each region deserves a contiguous block measured in days, not hours.
This 21-day active itinerary sequences north highlands, central caves, and Mekong delta experiences. For overland corridor logic without day counts, see
north to south route guide. For shorter trips, see
two-week itinerary. Country context lives in the

Week 1 · northern highlands
Days 1–2: Hanoi arrival.
Days 3–9: Choose a deep north block —
Ha Giang expedition plus
northeast border extension if you have seven riding days, or
Northwest Loop combining
Sapa trekking and Pu Luong.
Day 10: Rest or short flight south — confirm transfer options with your operator; we do not publish fixed transfer durations.
Week 2 · central caves and coast
Days 11–16: Phong Nha–Ke Bang focus —
Phong Nha cave tour hub,
Paradise vs Phong Nha cave, optional
central Vietnam slow journey for multi-day cave expeditions.
Build one buffer day for river-level cancellations in wet margins — see
Optional Hue or Hoi An food days via
Explore if energy allows.
Week 3 · Mekong delta and departure
Days 17–20:
Mekong delta river expedition or
Mekong delta tour hub for destination context — align with dry-season windows in
when to ride Vietnam southern section.
Day 21: Depart from Ho Chi Minh City — allow airport buffer after delta humidity and long transfer days.
Season swap logic
If your dates hit northern monsoon, consider opening in the delta and finishing in the highlands when skies clear — our planners validate swaps against ops pauses in
