Vietnam By Locals: Our Story
Not a Travel Company.
A Way of Walking
Through Vietnam.
Nationwide · Local · Deeply Human
Hanoi. A quiet street. A local walking beside a stranger.
It did not begin with a business plan.
It began with our walking tours. Through Hanoi's Old Quarter at the hour when the city belongs only to those who live in it. Through conversations that no itinerary could have written in advance.
Those early walks revealed something simple and powerful: the most meaningful version of Vietnam is the one a local shows you.
What started in Hanoi's streets slowly grew to Hue, Hội An, Saigon, and beyond. Not tours designed in an office, but journeys shaped by people who carry their region in their bones.
That's how Vietnam By Locals was born, and why it could only have been built this way.
Tony T
Founder · Vietnam By Locals
"I never set out to build a travel company. I set out to share what I loved, and it turned out a lot of people were waiting for exactly that."
Tony T founded what became Vietnam By Locals — beginning with walking tours in Hanoi and growing into one of the most reviewed locally led travel operations in Southeast Asia. His network of guides now spans the entire country, from the ancient streets of Hanoi and Hội An to the ethnic villages of the northern highlands.
His approach has always been the same: experience first, recognition second. Build something real, let the people who walk with you tell the story. The recognition followed, and it came not from press releases, but from over 10,000 traveler reviews left by people who walked beside a local and felt something shift.
Tony T is also the sole official partner of Sandeman's New Europe in Vietnam (the world's leading free walking tour brand), operating under Vietnam By Locals (operated by Hanoi Travel Mate). A partnership built on a shared belief: that the best way to understand a city is to walk it with someone who calls it home.
We have never chased recognition. But 10,000 travelers have written the story for us.

The intersection is not a place on a map. It is a moment, when a stranger becomes a guide, and a guide becomes a friend.
We believe travel is most meaningful when it is mutual. When the traveler brings genuine curiosity, and the local brings genuine knowledge, something rare is created.
Not a transaction. Not a tour. A genuine exchange between two worlds.
You arrive with open eyes and a quiet readiness. You have felt the pull of something unfinished: a country that asks to be experienced from the inside, not observed from a distance.
Your guide grew up on these streets, these mountains, these rivers. They know the market stall run by the same family for forty years, the shortcut through the alley that opens onto something extraordinary. They know Vietnam not as a destination, but as home.
An Invitation
Come not as a tourist.
Come as someone willing to be changed by what they find.
Vietnam is waiting. And so are the people who know it best.
