Onto the Water
From Cat Ba harbour, the boat moves out slowly into the bay. Within twenty minutes, the noise of the port is gone, replaced by water against the hull and the wide silence of the karsts rising on every side. By early afternoon, the kayaks are in the water. The first paddle is gentle — through a narrow passage between two islands, around a quiet cove, past a fishing boat working its lines. Dinner is taken on board as the light fades over the limestone.
