It’s worth noting this.get(‘websockets’) is the injected service. I think it depends on the scope of the application to determine if ember is overkill. If the chat client is anything more than the most basic chat client, then ember may be overkill. I do agree that it may be an excellent opportunity to learn ember. I think that ember would be a great choice.

This approach did what I wanted it to do in that it properly updated the Ember store with new records from websocket updates.
